When it comes to initiatives on carbon energy & emissions management, the European Union (EU) continues to set the standards for programs focusing on building energy efficiency. Recently, the EU issued new rules that will help ensure energy efficiency by requiring all industrial and commercial to adhere to energy management practices. As part of recent initiatives, they want to ensure that energy
efficiency will be a top priority.

The rules on building energy efficiency issued by the European Parliament insist that a portion of all building, constructed new after 2020, should have renewable energy sources. Buildings account for a significant proportion of greenhouse gases emitted. It was recognized previously that action should be taken to apply building energy efficiency rules as it relates to new building construction.

Since buildings have a lifespan of approximately 50 years, the impacts of poor energy management cannot be underestimated. Renovation and retrofitting buildings can only go so far. A new emphasis must be placed on energy efficiency efforts during the design, plan, and construction phases. The European Union's building energy efficiency standards put in place methods for continuous
improvements after 2020.

The European Parliament is already convinced that education is important in order to help achieve standards of high building energy efficiency as it relates to high consumption properties. Windows, installation standards, and appliances of many types must be appropriately labeled. The public must be able to see how much energy they are electing to consume so they may choose wisely.

If the government, companies, or consumers possess all the correct energy information, they can choose to implement building construction practices which work to meet the objectives for sustainable development. Every single building and the equipment within them must be optimized to produce the

least amount of waste and consume the least amount of energy. Building energy efficiency within the depressed economic environment we are now in is more important than ever.

In order to provide detailed information pertaining to energy usage and carbon emissions, building energy efficiency procedures and related energy management systems must be discussed at the boardroom level. There are massive financial reasons to address energy management to reduce energy related costs. Quite apart from greenhouse gas reduction, building energy efficiency drives costs savings and improved economic health for every organization. This level of change will call for consistent and urgent action with implementation of new building energy efficiency processes, resource management, and likely energy management software systems.

Re: Top Reasons to Focus on Building Energy Efficiency

Good well written article

The only thing I would take issue with is " We do one thing better than anyone else" ..but you would have to know our service to understand this objection :)

Re: Top Reasons to Focus on Building Energy Efficiency

A wholistic view of the facility, to egage the building as a single unit for operations, energy and maintenance; add to this building culture, tenants and the "celebration" or selling of the sustainability achivements and its processes to the occupants and visitors. Enagement of all parties and the goals which have been achived are also a major part of providing a total solution. This adds value to the building and increases people's desire to "be there".

The solution never ends, there are always new ideas, new products, and new technology (the best part) to serve customers better in improving their sustainability and operations.
